An appropriate way to spend Independence Day was in a movie theater to see Michael Moore's Sicko. (Really it was a feeble attempt to escape the annual bombing of South Chicago.)
Regardless of the explosions outside the theatre, I was captivated. I have mixed feelings about MM but he always makes me think and in the case of Sicko downright frightened. The fact that in the 21st century we live under the rules of a corporate-for-profit health care system and as a result so many Americans live without any health care is saddening.
Say what you will about Moore but this film certainly raises some awareness. Go see it and pray that if you're an artist you have friends in Canada.

as has been noted by others far wiser than i michael moores take on the Canadian system is a bit out.i live in Canada and we call ourselves artists[some use the term pornographers] and the medical system is not all that great.if it was so damn wonderful why do so many of my fellow citizens go to the U.S.for treatment they can't get here in a timely manner.something to think about when praising socialized health care. i think a blend of private and public healthcare is the way to go.just my 2 cents worth. c.j.g. of eroticalee
You bring up some good points and certainly I'm sure there are indeed flaws in the canadian systems.
I personally would trade a system of exorbitant health care, being cheated out of health care one paid for, or refused health care altogether for one that is flawed but universal.
